Dear Choonik Lee,

We have just heard from The Ohio State University Graduate School that you
are being awarded a University Fellowship for your first year of graduate
studies. I would like to congratulate you on this award, and also express
my excitement about having you enter our graduate program in nuclear
engineering as you pursue your PhD degree.

Our entire faculty is looking forward to working with you during the next
several years. At Ohio State, our PhD students are looked upon as being our
colleagues in research, not simply as our students. We look forward to
having you as a partner in our research programs, and are anxious to share
the ideas you bring with you to advance nuclear science and engineering.
This is an extremely important technology as we look for solutions to solve
our future energy, medical, nutritional, and environmental needs. I am
very happy that you want to seriously contribute to demonstrating and
implementing the many opportunities we have to maintain and improve our
standard of living through nuclear technology applications.

We have many very exciting opportunities here at Ohio State to contribute
to the advancement of nuclear applications. Our research on the “Fourth
Generation” reactor design, medical applications, and reactor safety is
moving forward in several directions. I look forward to having you be a
part of this. Financial support for your entire PhD program is assured
through the many research projects we have.

You will receive formal written notice of this award from the Graduate
School within a week. Please review the materials in detail and send us
your acceptance letter as soon as possible so we can prepare for your
arrival. If you have any questions about student life at Ohio State, I
encourage you to communicate with Ms. Hanying Liu, president of our local
American Nuclear Society chapter. Her email address is

Hanying Liu .

If you have any questions about our academic program, please contact me
directly, or feel free to contact any other member of our faculty.

Again, congratulations on this award. I’m looking forward to seeing you
here on Campus next fall!

Brian Hajek
