I am writing to give you a status update on your graduate
\nschool application. You should by now have received a letter indicating
\nthat we have submitted your application for a University Fellowship but also
\nindicating that if you fail to win a fellowship an offer for a graduate
\nresearch associateship. On the afternoon of Monday, March 12, we will hear
\nthe results of the fellowship competition. On Tuesday, the Nuclear
\nEngineering faculty will meet to review the results of the fellowship
\ncompetition and make decisions regarding to whom to offer graduate research
\nassociateships. As I indicated, in your case the faculty has previously
\ndecided to offer you the graduate research associateship in the event you
\nfail to be awarded a fellowship. The graduate research associateship has a
\nstipend of $1350 per month and also covers your tuition and fees. The only
\nsignificant difference to you between a fellowship and an associateship is
\nthat the associateship requires a 20 hour commitment per week to work on a
\nresearch project. I will be travelling from March 11 to March 24. I have
\nasked Grace Hines to notify you by E-mail regarding the outcome of the
\nfellowship competition. We will also try to keep you informed regarding
\nwhen you can expect to receive official paperwork from the university.<\/p>\n
I would like to express our high interest in your joining the nuclear
\nengineering program at Ohio State University. We do not currently have any
\nother Korean students, but by chance we will have two visiting professors
\nfrom Korean universities working with our faculty in Columbus next year.
\nApproximately half of our nuclear engineering students are from foreign
\ncountries, with a number from other Asian countries. The Ohio State
\nUniversity campus is very large (approximately 50,000 students) and provides
\nexcellent support to our large population of foreign students. Although it
\nis always difficult (but interesting) to enter a foreign environment, I
\nbelieve that you could quickly feel at home here. Columbus offers the
\ncultural advantages of a large city but the cost of living in Ohio is much
\nlower than on the east coast or west coast. Students don’t live like kings
\non the stipend that we provide but they do live much more comfortably than
\nstudents in cities like Boston, Massachusetts or Berkeley, California. If
\nwe can be of additional help to you in making your decision where to go to
